Horses are not genetically designed to undergo the repeated nature of modern training, which overtaxes their ability to repair muscle. Worse yet, training causes muscle loss. Muscle is like a bank balance. Hard workouts trigger age-old evolutionary alarms that break down muscle. During workouts, muscle is oxidized (burned) for energy. After workouts, muscle is broken down for prolonged periods from elevated cortisol and muscle damage. Lost muscle is urinated away as UUN (urine urea nitrogen). So serious training causes the equine body to cannibalize its own muscle. Muscle balance is lowered. The rate of new muscle deposits (protein synthesis) cannot meet losses (catabolism). Muscle balance is overdrawn and goes into the red. This negative balance is called catabolism-overall muscle loss greater than muscle repair and growth. Muscle loss degrades fitness and health, often accompanied by severe potassium loss. Micro tears in muscle and connective tissue are not sufficiently healed from prior workouts. The next workout or race finds a lethargic and sore horse that performs under potential. Illegal anabolic steroids are powerfully anti-catabolic. They protect muscle from breakdown, raising muscle balance. Steroids also turn on new repair and growth. Steroids are expensive, have serious side effects and are illegal. However, they are effective. EQUINE SHOW & GO promotes muscular development almost as effectively as steroids, yet is 100% natural. EQUINE SHOW & GO prevents muscle breakdown. Equally important, EQUINE SHOW & GO simulates new muscle protein synthesis. This combination of anti-catabolic and pro-anabolic metabolism triggers new levels of drug-free muscle growth. EQUINE SHOW & GO delivers factors which activate higher levels of protein synthesis. Amino acids from EQUINE SHOW & GO circulate around hungry muscle fibers. Some amino acids are absorbed by muscle. Then, predigested carbohydrates from EQUINE SHOW & GO produce insulin, a powerful anti-catabolic hormone which drives even more amino acids into cells. Increased uptake of amino acids into muscle cells is the key to greater protein synthesis; when cells "turn on" muscle production. This is how EQUINE SHOW & GO produces bigger, stronger, faster muscle. Blunting the catabolic hormone cortisol enhances protein synthesis even more. By delivering these factors simultaneously in specific ratios, especially during "at risk" periods when muscle is typically lost, EQUINE SHOW & GO can increase protein synthesis by 230%. Added mass from EQUINE SHOW & GO is lean, functional muscle. Muscle that generates more power, and maintains it for longer periods because it's more fatigue resistant. Horses can reach-and sustain-high running speeds quickly, yet have more reserve at the end. Additionally, vital compounds like enzymes, antibodies and blood cells are produced during protein synthesis. In this way, EQUINE SHOW & GO helps optimize general metabolism. EQUINE SHOW & GO horses look and swagger like they've finished a successful weight room workout. Ultra-muscular, yet lean and ripped. They feed so good they actually strut, and are rock hard to the touch. Their mental chemistry shifts towards more confidence. The Creatine-Horse Myth I Developed The Original Creatine For Humans & Dogs Over 20 Years
Ago. Bob Fritz In 1985, I helped research, develop and introduce the world's first commercial creatine (Creatine 1500 for Unipro, Inc.) Creatine was a product before its time. It took another decade for the scientific and sports world to catch on that creatine is incredibly effective and safe. After taking it myself all those years ago, I knew creatine would grow into the accepted powerhouse it is today. Aside from the first to give creatine to humans, I was also the first to feed it to dogs. I fed creatine to hunting dogs to improve performance when the world was thinking Kibbles & Bits. I knew creatine would work on dogs even better than humans. Why? The first major creatine was conducted 70 years ago used dogs. Since then, I've learned how to make creatine even more powerful with zero side effects. I began experimenting with creatine on horses in the mid 80's. I expected the same remarkable results, but was surprised. Feeding even ultra large amounts (up to 120 grams) of oral creatine did not result in the benefits I saw in humans and dogs. I tried various dosages; different forms of creatine, various timings but the results were the same. I found zero beneficial effects to giving oral creatine to horses. At higher doses, I observed stomach distress and projectile diarrhea. I suspected the reason creatine did not work on horses was due to the evolutionary differences between species. Humans, dogs and certain other animal that creatine proved effective on have one thing in common-meat eating. Raw meat contains large amounts of creatine. Over millions of years, these species evolved the ability to extract and use the creatine found in protein foods. Horses did not. Of course, horses do not run down other animals and kill them for food. I've yet to see a horse chew on the carcass of a dead rabbit. In my opinion, this is why oral creatine is useless on horses-it runs counter to their evolutionary design. However, horses share the documented benefits of high levels of creatine in muscle tissue that humans and dogs enjoy. Better performance, faster recovery and enhanced muscle repair are just a few of the payoffs to higher muscle creatine in horses. A medical study was conducted in 2000 that scientifically confirmed my hunch that oral creatine is useless in horses. Dr. Karl Schubak and his medical team fed 50 grams of creatine to standard bred horses and carefully measured the effects. In this well designed study, oral creatine had every chance to show benefits if it had the power to do so. But this study confirms my findings that even high doses of creatine result in zero net creatine gains in horses. So far, only anabolic steroids have been used successfully to increase muscle creatine in horses. Illegal and dangerous, steroids are proven to increase creatine content in muscle. But, anabolic steroids also carry serious side effects. Steroids work, but come with a high health price tag. After years of research, I developed a 100% natural, drug-free method of boosting muscle creatine in horses. I drew on medical research from two teams of brilliant MDs dating back 50 years. This breakthrough boosts muscle creatine better than anabolic drugs. It works by stimulating the equine body to produce many times its normal output of creatine. Horses produce their own internal creatine, but it is a slow, limited process. This method delivers the exact building blocks (precursors) the equine body uses to make its own creatine. After oral intake, these precursors and cofactors trigger the body to literally supercharge creatine output. Studies prove this formula not just incredibly effective, but also nontoxic and safe. Some human subjects have taken it for at least 8 years in a row on a daily basis. This advance (Equi-Cre™) can boost creatine output an astounding 300%. Moreover, Equi-Cre avoids the side effects of oral creatine. First, there is no gut bomb-horses tolerate it very well. Second, very little Equi-Cre is needed to make a huge difference in creatine output and muscle stores. Third, there is no cramping. Gram for gram, Equi-Cre is even more powerful than anabolic steroids! In addition to enhanced performance due to greater muscle creatine, Equi-Cre offers other equine benefits. SAMe production (s-adenosylmethionine) is enhanced, helping to support cartilage growth and repair. Studies show higher SAMe levels rival prescription drugs for reducing joint pain and inflammation. And SAMe lowers toxic homocysteine levels, reducing cardiovascular disease and cancer. As an added benefit, SAMe induces mental calmness and feelings of well being-always welcome in any horse. In fact, SAMe is a commonly prescribed natural antidepressant. So while oral creatine does not work on horses, I developed a formula that does. It works by triggering the horse's own body to safely produce more of its own creatine. It boosts muscle creatine better than muscle building drugs, yet is 100% natural and non-toxic. It tests clean in any racetrack is not banned by any human, equine or canine sports body. Equi-Cre is found only in SHOW & GO. See for yourself the independent medical study that proved oral creatine-even in very large dosages-is ineffective on horses. Equine Vet J 2000 Nov;32(6):533-40 Effect of creatine supplementation on muscle metabolic response to a maximal treadmill exercise test in Standard bred horses. Schuback K, Essen-Gustavsson B, Persson SG. Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of creatine (Cr) supplementation on muscle metabolic response in connection with a maximal treadmill exercise test, known to cause a marked anaerobic metabolic response and adenine nucleotide degradation. First, 6 Standard bred trotters performed a standardized maximal exercise test until fatigue (baseline test). The test used was an inclined incremental treadmill test in which the speed was increased by 1 m/s, starting at 7 m/s, every 60 s until the horse could no longer keep pace with the treadmill. After this baseline test, the horses were separated into 2 equal groups. One half received a dose of 25 g creatine monohydrate twice daily, and the other group were given the same dose of lactose (placebo). The supplementation period was 6.5 days, after which the maximal treadmill exercise test was performed again. A washout period of 14 days was allowed before treatments were switched between groups and a new supplementation period started. After this second supplementation period a new maximal exercise test was performed. After supplementation with creatine or placebo, horses were stopped after performing the same number of speed steps and duration of exercise as they had in the baseline test. Blood samples for analysis of plasma lactate, creatine (Cr), creatinine, hypoxanthine, xanthine and uric acid concentrations were collected at rest, during each speed step and during recovery. The total blood volume (TBV) was also determined. Muscle biopsies for analysis of muscle metabolites (adenosine triphosphate [ATP], adenosine diphosphate [ADP], adenosine monophosphate [AMP], inosine monophosphate [IMP], creatine phosphate [CP], lactate [La] and glycogen) were taken at rest, immediately post exercise and after 15 min recovery. The results showed no significant increase in plasma Cr or muscle total creatine concentration (TCr) after supplementation with Cr. At the end of exercise ATP and CP concentrations had decreased and IMP and lactate concentrations increased in muscle in all groups. Plasma lactate concentration increased during exercise and recovery and plasma uric acid concentration increased during recovery in all groups. No influence could be found in TBV after supplementation with creatine. These results show that creatine supplementation in the dosages used in this study had no influence on muscle metabolic response or TBV. (Note, this sentence is scientific-speak "oral creatine is useless on horses") DON'T be fooled. Regular creatine in horses is a hoax. |
